We wanted to create a tranquil and luxurious master bathroom. The bathroom previously felt quite dark, so we wanted to make it as light as possible as well.
We selected pale gray marble flooring with a softly flowing pattern that almost looks like wood; a material used through the ages but with a fresh feel. We paired it with a more traditional white and gray veined marble for the vanity counter and window seat. The flooring is subtle so does not take away from the more intricate marble in other areas.
In the shower, we were inspired by the look of traditional wainscoting with wallpaper above, but in this case we used white ceramic field tile instead of wood and marble instead of wallpaper. We chose the same marble for the shower floor as the shower walls, but in different patterns. We brought in classic herringbone on the shower floor to match the feature wall behind the vanity.
We removed a pony wall against the shower, making it feel even bigger. We installed a regular shower head and a hand-held for versatility. We made sure to tuck the large niche into the inside wall so that you don’t notice it unless you’re getting into the shower. It’s always filled with products after all! The drain was a special little piece to add a little more visual interest. We installed a frameless shower door, but the tile is showcased better in the photos prior to the installation.
When you walk into the bathroom the first thing you see is the vanity, so we wanted to add a feature wall with herringbone marble tile all the way to the ceiling. The original vanity housed only one sink, so we of course installed a dual vanity, with white shaker cabinets to keep it crisp. We also installed a coordinating linen closet for extra storage. We finished with shiny chrome hardware to give these classic cabinets a little glam.
We also replaced the built in tub with a free-standing one. Not only is it more contemporary, but it takes up a smaller footprint than the original tub, making the bathroom feel even bigger.
Lastly, we added additional sconces to bring in more light. We were tempted to put a chandelier over the tub, but we didn’t want to disrupt the beautiful lines of the ceiling.
