Los Altos Transitional

We did a refresh of this kitchen. We kept the existing cabinet boxes and appliances, but we replaced the cabinet fronts, countertops, backsplash, lighting and painted everything.
The original cabinets were the same color as the floor with traditional, ornate cabinet and drawer fronts. We replaced them with shaker style fronts and painted them, along with the boxes, in a crisp white. We added new chrome hardware to finish them. We also created custom crown molding and baseboards to pair nicely with the shaker cabinets.
The original countertops and backsplash were a brown speckled granite, making the entire kitchen very brown. We wanted to bring in natural stone so we selected a beautifully flowing gray quartzite for the counters. We didn’t want to worry about the maintenance of marble but wanted something natural, so we chose quartzite for that reason. We chose gray counters to contrast nicely with the white cabinets and backsplash. We continued the natural stone with with a marble chevron backplash. We wanted to bring in marble but in a place that would patina less over time.
Originally there was one large, dim ceiling light. We added cans for functionality and three pendants for ambiance. The lighting alone transformed this kitchen.
We wanted to create a neutral and timeless kitchen that would lend flexibility to different accessories. We brought in some color with various navy accents, including timeless navy and white bistro chairs.
